These songs a re all derived from different parts of my family's history. That history's not done being written yet, so there may be future songs added to this EP.

"Willing Warrior" is about my four times great grandfather, Valentin Doering, whose military regiment was sent by his Prince in Hesse, Germany to fight for the British in the American Revolution. Imagine the challenges to be faced crossing the Atlantic, fighting as an infantryman in the archaic style that the British employed at the time of the Revolution, and finally facing a decision after the war was over whether to return to Germany or to homestead land in the new world of America. I believe that his courage and resilience were a model for his children and in fact all generations of the Daring family since.

 

The Mountains of Tennessee tells the story of being born in New York, but moving to a small town in the mountains of south Tennessee at a young age, which resulted in an upbringing that allows me to appreciate the finer things in life while knowing that there are more important things in life, like family.
