Thank You Albert Lee

This past Thursday night along with a full house at the Iron Horse Cafe in Northampton, MA I was treated to a wonderful evening of music by Albert Lee. I suspect most people who know Albert's music think of him as one of the leaders in creating what we think of today as country picking electric guitar style. At one point during the show, I turned to my brother and said "he sounds a lot like Vince Gill". I quickly realized that was entirely wrong - the truth is that Vince Gill sounds a lot like Albert Lee... I suspect because that's who Vince learned from.

What really made the evening special was when this originator of country electric guitar picking sat down at a keyboard and proceeded to play a number of ballads, including Jimmy Webb's "Highwaymen" on the keyboard, with his red Music Man 6 string sitting in it's stand on the other side of the stage. I realized that for Albert Lee, it's all about the song, the music. He was at ease, and just seemed to be enjoying songs that are meaningful to him for the lucky folks who were fortunate enough to be with him at the show.

Thank you Albert!
